STIFFNESS DETERMINATION OF SANDWICH CONSTRUCTIONS
Novotný C., Španiel M.
pages 203 - +9p., full text

Sandwich construction elements, i.e. elements formed by two skins and core, excel in high ratio of bending stiffness to weight of construction. This complex is designed in order to transmit transverse forces by core and bending load by skins. It is possible to model these constructions by finite elements method (FEM) with use of layered shell elements, by combination of shell and solid elements or by only solid elements. As a test body was chosen sandwich beam composed by combination skin – core – skin for comparative analysis. Comparison of particular model method was carried out for case of three-point bending. Model stiffness was confronted by beam deflection. Further there were confronted variation of strain and stress along thickness. Beam deflections were compared with experimental available data. As optimal model is appeared modelling of skins by shells and core by solid elements.
