The paper deals with the preliminary analysis of the correct and incorrect contact of the two-dimensional manifolds represented by screw surfaces which form a plane higher kinematic pair and which were created in the direct envelope way according to the Distelli theorem. Screw surfaces of different profiles represent the most spread application of the Distelli theorem. The incorrect contact of surfaces is caused, in this paper, by a large parallel displacement of the axis of one of the surfaces. The aim of this paper is to develop an appropriate method of finding the incorrect contact of two screw surfaces which could be applied to the problem of general axis displacement.
