Description of state behavior along the critical isotherm and along the saturation curve using simple equations of state. Part III
Bayer Z.
pages 37 - +8p., full text

The study examines the possibility of the liquid spinodal course estimation. The procedure concerns a group of 13 simple equations of state, while the ordinary water substance, according to IAPWS-1995 formulation, is applied as the model fluid. It is shown that only the spinodal volumes according to the particular equations of state are in acceptable limits, not their pressures. The assumptions of satisfying spinodal estimation are: the correct values of the (∂p / ∂v´)T , and a suitable type of the equation of state. From this viewpoint, the Amagat and B(02b) cubic eqations and probably a little better the Hirschfelder's virial series of the fifth order proved to be satisfying. From it follows, among others, that the spinodal course could be useful as one from various criterions of considering the suitability of the given equation of state.
