Penalty formulation of the method of free hexagons
Procházka P., Kugblenu M.
pages 282 - +10p., full text

The method of free hexagons belongs to discrete element methods. There are plenty of advantages in comparison with other numerical approaches: the hexagons can cover the whole domain describing the trial structure so that standard mechanical properties can be introduced in the computation. Geomechanical or other material properties, such as materials along contacts, fracture mechanic properties and others can be involved in the model. Von Mises-Huber-Hencky hypothesis is applied inside the hexagons.
