Applicability of Hertz theory in rolling contact simulations
Halama R., Fusek M.
pages 105 - +7p., full text

Using finite element method for fatigue life estimation in rolling contact is very productive. Sometimes, in cases with complicated geometry of contact bodies, it is the only one way solving the task. This article shows some possibilities for consideration of contact pressure distribution using with the pressure moving method. Under the plastic shakedown limit the elastic Hertz normal pressure could be assumed. Above this value the proposed approximation is more accurate. The suggested function was investigated for case of line contacts. All solutions were done using FEM software Ansys 8.0.
