Current active vibration suppression systems usually consist of piezoelectric actuators bonded to the surface or embedded within the structure. In most of these structures thickness-poled piezoelectric elements are placed at the extreme thickness positions of the structure to achieve effective actuation authority. But it is also very important to place the actuators at the positions with maximum in-plane deformation within vibration modes of interest. In this paper finite element model is used to directly determine the optimal actuator placement for vibration suppression of canteliver rectangular plate. Positive position feedback method is used to control chosen vibration modes in simulation example.
